Lin-Manual Miranda is an award-winning songwriter, actor, producer, and director, perhaps best known as the creator and original star of Broadway’s Hamilton and In the Heights. The native New Yorker is an active supporter of initiatives that increase the representation of people of color throughout the arts and government, ensure access to women’s reproductive health, and promote resilience in Puerto Rico. 

An accomplished actor, comedian, author, and television personality, Goldberg came from humble beginnings to become one of the few people to receive an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award (EGOT). Goldberg is also known for her work advocating for human rights and the LBGTQ+ community.

The Los Angeles native began writing at a young age and in 2021 became the youngest inaugural poet in US history with her poem “The Hill We Climb.” The Harvard graduate has written for the New York Times, performed commissioned poems for CBS This Morning, and is the recipient of multiple awards, including a genius grant from OZY Media and the Poets & Writers Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Award. 

Malala Yousafzai became an international symbol of the fight for girls’ education after she was shot in 2012 for opposing Taliban restrictions on female education in her home country of Pakistan. 

 

When the Taliban burned down her girl’s school in Pakistan in 2008, she kept a diary of events which was later published by the BBC. In retaliation for speaking up against oppression, a Taliban gunman shot her on a school bus. She survived but now lives in exile in England. At the age of 17, Yousafzai was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her fight for the right of every child to receive an education. 

When he was seven-years old, Quan’s family fled Vietnam to Hong Kong, eventually reuniting in the United States. Just a few years later, he was handpicked by director Steven Spielberg to play Indiana Jones’ sidekick in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. After years away from acting, he recently stepped back into the spotlights. In his first role in over 30 years, Quan received an Oscar in 2023 for his work in Everything Everywhere All at Once. 

Known for her large-scale environmental artworks, architect Maya Lin became a household name when her design was selected for Washington, DC’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial (she was a senior at Yale at that time). In 2016, Lin was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in honor of her career in art and architecture and for creating a sacred place of healing in the nation’s capital. 

Born in Graz, Germany, Schwarzenegger was 21 when he moved to the United States to pursue a career in body building. He soon turned to acting, becoming a box office star with the success of The Terminator in 1984. In 2003, he successfully ran for governor of California and was re-elected in 2007.
